What remains of the tiger when it no longer has a physical existence? As an icon and symbol, it is depicted with a duality—either powerful or adorable. This duality can be traced back to traditional Korean folktales where the tiger is both monstrous yet gullible, but today, tigers no longer roam the lands of South Korea. All that’s left is the idea of the tiger—a fluid and intangible form that simultaneously reflects its past and present self.
Tiger Legends critiques the tiger as an icon by presenting these dualities. On one hand, it has the slit eyes, extra fangs, and sharp claws that suggest its predatory nature, yet its form is incomplete and stunted.
