Visual Language - 3D Foundations Online

Fall 2021 - Spring 2022

This was a hands-on studio course taught completely online post-COVID at the University of Montana, Missoula. The course included project pages with instructional videos and links to additional resources, such as readings and samples from other artists. Students were required to post “Warm-up Exercises” to demonstrate practical understanding of each project’s techniques, then their project plans in the form of sketches. Each week, students would post a check-in image and description where I would give feedback. After posting their final project, students contribute their critiques through the form of comments.

The course was designed to engage students in critical thinking and analysis across various materials for three-dimensional sculpture. In order to be as accessible as possible for those working from home, projects were based around easily found materials, with some being provided through pick-up, and others being mailed to students.
